Stephanie Holmes-Winton

Stephanie was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Originally aiming for a career in veterinary medicine, she attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (now Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Agriculture) and graduated with honours from the Animal Sciences program in 1998. She began working in farming in Alberta for a few years before returning to Nova Scotia in 2001. She started a career in financial services soon after. It probably seems like a big change, but understanding animal behaviour turns out to be a handy and transferable skill when working with humans and their financial behaviour.

After a decade working directly with clients on their cash flow, debt, retirement planning, insurance, and investments, Stephanie sold her practice and turned her cash flow planning process into a program for financial advisors. In 2013, Stephanie founded CacheFlo (formerly The Money Finder) and launched the Certified Cash Flow Specialist (CCS) designation program. Following the launch of the CCS, the first version of the professional cash flow planning software was released. This was followed by a client app called Winton, and many more tools and courses.

Over the last 23+ years, Stephanie has written two books on spending and debt: Defusing the Debt Bomb, and $pent. She’s also been a regular contributor in media, including Advisor.ca, CBC Radio and CTV, and her advice has been featured in publications from coast to coast. Stephanie has also given countless presentations and webinars throughout North America.

Stephanie lives in Dartmouth, NS, with her husband Ric, son Brandon, and their two ragdoll cats Churro and Sugar. She is an avid home baker who loves to experiment with complex French patisserie. If it’s something that makes the contestants of a baking show cry, then she wants to master it. She’s also been an amateur dance costume designer for Brandon, who’s a very talented competitive dancer. Stephanie and her family enjoy trips to England to visit family, the beauty of Nova Scotia, and watching a lot of dance competitions.
